So join me as I document the conversations, stories and advice to help you achieve what matters in your life. Welcome to unbound with me, Chris DuBois. Welcome to unbound where today we are going to talk about the proper steps in the proper order to achieve your goals in a much more effective manner. So there's an order to the chaos of tackling goals and targets. And so if you do this out of order, it doesn't mean that you'll you'll never be successful, it just means you're going to struggle, probably longer than you would have actually needed to. And the order is mindset skill set toolset, you need to address each of these sequentially, in order to achieve your goals. Right. If you start with a toolset, and you grow reliance on it, what's going to happen when that tool goes away, if you don't have the right mindset, you don't have the right skill set. Or you're you're stuck floundering because you don't actually know what you're doing. And actually here, here's a good aside. People who don't know how to execute on skills, and they start using AI to do it for them are going to be far less successful than the people who have the skills and use AI to their work. And what happens when something goes wrong with AI when Skynet takes over. And now you don't actually know what you're doing that entire business that you started building because you were letting a robot do the work for you. And you were just being the face that all crumbles. So anyways, I'm calling that one out now. But let's start by talking about mindset. Why is mindset is important. So the best coaches will start with mindset. Your first couple sessions are all going to be around getting you to see things the way you need to see them in order for whatever they're coaching you on to be successful. And so they really need you in the right frame of mind, in order to make it happen. It's the same thing with courses. Do you take some of the some of the better courses don't not like the $2 Udemy ones, which can be fine for learning something really quick. But I'm talking like when you're actually investing in multiple hundreds or 1000s of dollars for a course, you'll notice that the first modules are almost always around mindset and getting you to see the world the way they need you to see it so that you're more open and readily, like readily available for whatever knowledge they're going to send to you. And this goes much deeper than just like the growth mindset. This actually means like mind control, right? You can you can want this superpower, very few people actually have it over their own minds. First, it starts by asking great questions. I can't tell you what those questions are. But I can tell you what they aren't. And usually, it's things like why can't I do this? Why is this so hard? instead? You know, why don't you ask how can I do this? How can I do this in half the time? If this were easy? What would it look like? And if you can get in the habit of doing that everything is going to fall into place much faster, or you can't believe everything you think. So you have to get very specific and positive. drive yourself towards that. All thoughts are driven by questions. And that's a like a Tony Robbins saying the the model that I love that kind of follows the same route is was created by Brooke Castillo runs a Life Coach School. And I work with one of the coaches that is certified through her and we've used this model right to help shape a lot of my thoughts and and how I'm viewing certain problems helped me achieve what I want. So thoughts drive feelings, feelings, drive actions, actions, drive results. And so if you can go back and kind of rework all these right, I was having this feeling this is what action I took a what thought do I need to change in order for that feeling to change? And it all comes down to what questions did I need to ask in order to create the proper thoughts? We could probably do a whole episode on that. So I'm just gonna keep rolling here. But you need to make your questions good. Because that ultimately is what is going to bring the results. Okay, so next moving on to skill set. Now skills just like your your mindset, they can never be taken away. Right. So anything you you develop with skills, that's an investment in yourself, that is going to pay dividends in the future. You want to stack skills to accomplish tasks, no matter what you have available for resources, right, you should be able to have a skill that says I can go into this environment, and I can make it work. I can also go into this environment with fewer resources and make that work as well. If you check it out, I think it's Episode Three If you can learn more about the three skills everyone needs, if you have those three skills, a lot of this falls into play. Now, when you have the right mindset, right, it's easier to acquire skills because you're prepared to put in the work. You're already asking the questions that says like, what do I need to do in order to achieve this? Now, moving into toolset, this is where a lot of people jump right to the toolset. And that's why they fail. So let me tell you a quick story about me juggling. So I tried juggling and college, he's one of my roommates had a college class where, you know, he had to spend 15 minutes a night to juggle and they were going to see our facet, whatever, I couldn't do it, I gave up pretty quick. And something changed a couple years ago, where I just decided, hey, I can learn how to juggle I want to learn. And so after the kids putting the kids to bed, you know, at first I started with some some rolled up socks, and I just kept trying and I couldn't really figure it out. I watched a couple videos, start doing potatoes. And while I'm while I'm doing this over the couch, my wife walks downstairs and she's like, What are you doing? And so my while I'm trying to juggle, she's like, why would you learn to juggle my Oh, because I can it feels like something fun to do. You know, as in the right mindset, I'm trying to develop a skill set. And she said, Well, it's interesting, because your daughter's for Father's Day bought you a set of juggling balls. And like I until this point, like I never even talked about juggling with my kids, but they happen to buy it. So I learned how to juggle very quickly so that on Father's Day, when I opened this gift, I pulled out the juggling balls, and I just started juggling, and my kids like their eyes got super wide, right, jaws dropped. And they're just they couldn't, they're amazed that I knew how to juggle. And so I gave them the juggling balls. And they tried to do it thinking it was the tools that were making it happen. And they couldn't, they couldn't do it. And so it's like the perfect lesson, and why you need the skills. Because the tools aren't going to make it any easier. They're just is it much easier to use juggling balls and potatoes that are misshapen, or socks that I couldn't roll up, right. But yeah, it's way easier, and they're weighted, and it just feels good, right. But if you don't know how to juggle, it doesn't matter. If you have juggling balls, the tools are a bonus. And now technology is great because it helps us do things faster. But if you still don't know what you're doing, then it's not going to matter, you're still going to get a subpar result. That's kind of what I was talking about with the AI at the start of this episode. If people are just using a tool, because it makes it easier for them, but they don't actually know what they're doing with the tool. Right, you're not going to win in the long run. If you've ever seen, like an expert, Japanese, like woodworker, when they're they're doing all of these, these different joints and everything with with hand tools, you can see like tech isn't always required, right? A machine could jump probably do it quicker. But there's something about just how particular you can get and how focused you can get on doing something that like a machine can never replicate with, you know, to that level of detail. And now that person who who is doing you know that woodworking could actually look at a machines output and say, Oh, well it didn't do this right. Or it didn't have that where someone without the skill, can't even correct the machine to make it work in the proper way. So tools should be embraced, but not relied upon. If you've done the foundational work tools will only help you win faster. So there you go. Three Steps to crushing whatever targets you set out to achieve. Order is mindset skill set tool set. To do that. All of your great results should follow. If you enjoyed today's episode, I would love a rating and review on your favorite podcast player.
